The Mission of this fashion show & rally is to develop a list of demands (or “asks”!) related to creating justice for our community that will be shared with Miami- Dade elected officials- with those that attend the event, and also with those that do not. The event will include our partner organizations but will center the young people who will be involved in the event with the older folks asked to act as allies and accomplices to the young people. The young people will be invited to form a follow-up Justice Committee and The McKenzie Project Inc. will support this committee in meeting regularly to plan follow-up with the elected officials, City of Miami, and the Miami Dade Police Department. The young people who form the Justice Committee will be the organizing body that creates an inclusive structure for the group and they will invite other QTBIPOC young people to participate. All Justice Advocates of the committee will be paid a monthly stipend. All recruitments should be ages 18-35 years old living in Miami- Dade County. TMPI, will also provide advocacy and leadership training and develop a series of follow-up meetings and actions, led by the Justice Committee. The McKenzie Project will be the “home base” of the Justice Committee and continue to build a safe space (including the planned drop-in center!) where our young people can gather.
